Macro Automation Studio (MAS) is a desktop app for Windows and Apple Silicon Mac. This page covers the download, the installer on each system, signing in, the built-in updater and where MAS keeps your files.

Before you start

  • Windows: a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC and an account that can approve an administrator prompt.
  • Mac: an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 to M5) on macOS 12 Monterey or newer. There is no Intel build and no Linux build.
  • The download page lists 8 GB of RAM for Windows (16 GB recommended) and 4 GB for Mac (8 GB recommended). An emulator needs memory of its own on top of that.
  • An email address or a Google account for sign-in.

Download Macro Automation Studio

Get the installer from the download page. Windows receives MacroAutomationStudio-<version>.exe. Mac receives a DMG built for Apple Silicon.

Install on Windows or an Apple Silicon Mac

  1. Run the installer and approve the administrator prompt.
  2. If an earlier MAS is installed, the installer offers to remove it first. Click Yes.
  3. If MAS is running, the installer offers to close it. Let it, or close MAS yourself.
  4. Accept the license and choose whether you want a desktop icon.
  5. Wait while files copy to C:\MacroAutomationStudio. The installer then creates the Python environment, which can take a few minutes.
  6. Keep the launch option checked and click Finish.

The installer also puts adb, Tesseract OCR and the uv package manager under C:\ProgramData\MacroAutomationStudio\3rdparty. Nothing else is downloaded during setup.

  1. Open the DMG and move MacroAutomationStudio to Applications.
  2. Open it from Applications. The app is signed and notarized; if macOS asks to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet, click Open.
  3. On first launch MAS creates its Python environment under ~/Library/Application Support/MacroAutomationStudio/python_venv. This can take a few minutes.
  4. adb, Tesseract OCR and uv ship inside the app bundle. If MAS reports “ADB executable not found”, install adb with Homebrew and restart MAS:

MAS looks for adb inside the app bundle first, then on your PATH, then in the Homebrew folders.

Sign in

MAS supports two ways to sign in. Both give you the same account.

  1. Click Sign in with Google. Your browser opens the Google sign-in page. After “Login Successful” appears, return to the app.
  2. Or enter your Email address and Password and click Sign In.

New to MAS? Click Sign up, enter your email and a password, then type the one-time password MAS emails you. Once the account is activated, sign in.

Subscription check

After sign-in MAS checks your entitlement. With the free trial or a paid plan every page opens. Without one, MAS opens Subscription and keeps you there until you pick a plan. Plans are listed on the pricing page; the mechanics are on the Billing page.

Updates

MAS updates itself; you do not download a new installer for every release.

  1. After sign-in MAS asks the version server for the latest release.
  2. When a newer version exists, the “New Update Available” dialog opens with both version numbers and the release notes.
  3. Click Update Now to start, or Not Now to keep working. While a download runs you can click Minimize.
  4. MAS downloads the updater helper, then the update package, and verifies the package with a SHA-256 hash. On Mac the helper also checks the code signature against the MAS Apple team before it swaps the app.
  5. The dialog shows “Update Complete”. Click Restart Now or wait for the automatic restart.

Where MAS keeps your files

Each project folder is named <id>_<name>, where the name is lowercased with spaces turned into underscores. Inside you find src/app.py, the generated src/script_args.py when the project has an argument form, and any assets you add. Projects are git repositories; see Git projects and code sync.

C:\ProgramData is hidden by default. Type the path into the Explorer address bar to open it.

Troubleshooting

MacroAutomationStudio is currently running

The installer found a running MAS. Click Yes to let it close the app, or quit MAS from its window and run the installer again.

The Python environment did not finish

The installer logs a warning and finishes anyway; MAS repeats the setup on the next launch. If the app reports “uv package manager not found”, reinstall MAS from the download page.

ADB executable not found

Mac only. MAS could not find adb in the app bundle, on your PATH or under /opt/homebrew. Run brew install android-platform-tools and restart MAS.

Update failed

The dialog names the cause. For a network error, click Try Again. For “Not enough disk space”, free space and retry. When the dialog offers Download Manually, install the new version from the download page.
